The upcoming DREDD, a reboot of Sylvester Stallone's heavily-criticized JUDGE DREDD (1995) is supposed to be making a potentially good comeback. But the Lionsgate comic-book adaptation has unexpected hit a major downfall, when the reboot's original director Pete Travis leaves the project in the middle of post-production. Screenwriter-producer Alex Garland (2007's SUNSHINE, 2002's 28 DAYS LATER) is now reportedly to take over the project in the editing room, and could be credited as the new director altogether.
Apparently Pete Travis leaves the project midway because the producers and executives in charge of the production were not pleased with the footage he was delivering. But there is another source claimed that while Travis isn't involved in the post-production process, he is still keeping tabs on the project.
With the post-production goes in limbo, it's highly unlikely that DREDD will undergo reshoots -- a would-be fatal sign of a bad movie. DREDD remains scheduled to hit theaters on September 21, 2012. The movie stars Karl Urban as the new Judge Dredd, along with Olivia Thirlby, Jason Cope and Warrick Grier.
